I need to say this. Lamest. "Snowstorm." EVER. We got MAYBE half an inch of snow. WTF, Boston???

I have been incredibly delinquent with the 30 Days Meme, and so I give you some make-up blathering:

Day 01 → Your favourite song
Day 02 → Your favourite movie

I'm going to have to go with "The Lion King" as my favorite movie. No other movie can get me as worked up as that one, and I mean happy and laughing and singing along all the way to sobbing like a little baby. It has an amazing message, and a beautiful plot and character arc. I will say that this is pretty different from basically all my other favorite movies in that the romance in this is not really an important part of the plot, but even for as big a sap as I am, I am more than okay with the limited role of romance in this. It is more about Simba's journey, his grief process and acceptance of his tragedy as a youth, and his personal growth as he understood his responsibility to the pride and that he was worthy of that responsibility. I just love it to pieces, and I will never stop loving it. Have I mentioned recently how glad I am I am finally getting to see the musical? ;)

Day 03 → Your favourite television program

How can you make me choooose??? There are many favorites of the past, but for various reasons they have slipped in the ranks and may never be recovered. I don't know if I can honestly say HIMYM is my favorite program anymore. It's just really been bothering me lately, especially in the way that [ profile] girlthethird mentioned - how the female characters are just so one-dimensional and offensively written. ANYWAY. This is not the place for complaining.

So I will have to say my favorite television show would have to be Doctor Who. I always look forward to the next episode, I always have a lot to say and think about it when the episode is over, and even when there are bits where I want to throw something at the TV, I can understand why that's in there. There are moments when I think, "Oh, that's so perfect." I love the character development, and I love the rich history this show has. I've seen at least one episode featuring every Doctor but two, and I love them all, even the really cheesy episodes. It's good fun, and I'll always have good fun with it. It helps that I have no involvement with their very (at least seemingly so) fandom whatsoever. So yay for Doctor Who! Runner up would probably be "The West Wing." Oh, how I miss that show.

Day 04 → Your favourite book
Though I've only read it once (it's on loan to a friend right now), I'm going to say The Silent Gondoliers by William Goldman, author of The Princess Bride. It has the same sweeping narrative that Goldman lends to S Morgenstern's work, and it has just such a beautiful story and heart-wrenching climax. It is wonderfully written, and if I had to read one story over and over again, it would be this one. If I could read one book over and over again, it would definitely be a collection of fairy tales. Because that's how I roll.

One last one for the road. I'm sick with a cold, so bear with me:
Day 05 → Your favourite quote
Here, have a few. I love them all!

"Don't pay too much attention to the sounds - if you do you may miss the music. You won't get a wild, heroic ride to heaven on pretty little sounds." - George Ives to his son Charles Ives

"Does it ever bother you that pathology is on the same floor as the cafeteria?" - Doogie Howser

"I've been saying it so long to you, you just wouldn't listen. Every time you said 'Farm Boy do this' you thought I was answering 'As you wish' but that's only because you were hearing wrong. 'I love you' was what it was, but you never heard." - The Princess Bride

"There is deep mourning up Cleve Young's way this week. A few days ago Cleve could not find his pet raccoon 'Play Boy.' He thought 'Play Boy' was out somewhere playing, however, his guess was wrong; 'Play Boy' was surely in hot water, and of all things, in hot water with no fur on. In fact 'Play Boy' was in hot water on James Brook's stove. His hide was on a barrel stave. James says he ran over him with his car and not wanting to see a good 'coon go to waste - well you know the rest." - The Calvert Independent, October 31, 1940

"When you're a kid, they tell you it's all 'grow up. Get a job. Get married. Get a house. Have a kid, and that's it.' But the truth is, the world is so much stranger than that. It's so much darker. And so much madder. And so much better." - Elton, Doctor Who episode 2.10, "Love and Monsters"

Days 6-30 )

Time to sleep!!! :D

Alright, since it's not like I have any homework due tomorrow or anything, I may as well continue the procrastination with this lovely 30 Days meme that's been going around, but stolen more specifically from [ profile] vimtastic. Joy!

Day 01 → Your favourite song
Days 2-30 )

It is really difficult to pick a favorite song, but for the past many months it's been "Endless Night" from The Lion King Original Broadway Cast soundtrack. I discovered the musical last summer, and I fell in love with this song. I had already loved the score maybe more than the movie's lyrical songs already, so when this part of the score was made into a song, I was absolutely floored. Jason Raize had such a beautifully powerful voice, and the emotion in it is so compelling. It's so tragic that he wasn't around much longer - I feel like he had so much more to give to the world. "Shadowland" is also a very good piece of score turned song in the musical, but "Endless Night" I have listened to on repeat because I love listening to it, as well as in a therapeutic manner to calm down when I've been nervous or anxious. So that's my speech on this song. Just absolutely beautiful. Have a listen (plus bonus "He Lives In You")!

Bottom line: I am SO excited to see "The Lion King" next month. SO. EXCITED.

Also, a random thought: Today I had such a bad case of "slippy sock" from that Ted/Victoria fic by [ profile] dipenates Anyway, it made me think of that fic. Good times. :)
